Disturbing Video Shows Instant Officers Are Stabbed in Ambush
A police sergeant who jumped to the aid of a fellow officer that got attacked by a blade-wielder received the King's Commendation for Valor.
Sergeant Tim Ansell grappled with twenty-seven-year-old Jacob Brown after he placed a weapon to the neck of his fellow officer Sergeant Marc Foster.
Brown initiated the assault as the policemen and their partner, PC Marcus Wolstencroft, were conversing to a motorist after a traffic accident in the area in mid-2023.
Brown knifed and cut both Sgt Ansell and Sgt Foster prior to Police Constable Wolstencroft stunned him with a stun gun.
"Policeman attacked," the officer was heard to say over his communication device.
Officer-mounted and dashcam recording shared by the agency showed Brown, who was dressed in dark clothing with a hood covering head, run up to Sgt Foster from behind with a knife pointed forward.
He collided with the officer who stumbled and dropped to the pavement, after which Sgt Ansell intervened and struggled to restrain him to the ground despite being multiple times hit with the weapon.
Police Constable Wolstencroft deployed his electric weapon and waited for a clear shot, concluding the struggle to an conclusion.
Sergeant Ansell can be heard to say: "Can I get assistance on my throat here, I got knifed in the neck."
Sgt Ansell sustained multiple open wounds to his neck and more wounds to his arms and body, whereas Sgt Foster experienced cut injuries.
Officials stated Sgt Foster employed his hands to stop his colleague's hemorrhaging before emergency responders arrived.
The new recognition arrives after the trio of policemen won departmental Valor Recognitions in late 2023 and the John Egerton Bravery Award from the local officer association in early 2024.
They further earned a North West Valor Recognition in July 2024.
"The efforts of each policeman ultimately saved one another and meant no members of the public suffered any harm."
Brown received a sentence to an psychiatric detention in spring 2024, as stated by the department.
