Former FBI chief James the former director has denied the charges to providing misleading information to lawmakers and obstructing a lawmaking procedure.

Mr Comey's attorney entered the answer acting as his counsel in a national courtroom in Alexandria, Virginia on Wednesday morning.

His attorney declared he would seek to have the case thrown out for several factors including that his client, a critic of former President Trump, was being targeted.

The former director was formally accused shortly after Trump urged his chief prosecutor to proceed against him.

Judicial Process

At the proceedings on mid-week, the defense counsel Mr Fitzgerald told the judge they planned to file various motions to terminate the case before a trial, claiming the legal action was spiteful and that a US attorney was unlawfully designated to handle the legal matter.

The former director's proceedings was originally managed by the original attorney, who left his position under scrutiny from Donald Trump after his examination into another rival - NY AG Letitia James - was unable to file indictments.

Legal Setting

Mr Comey came across in optimistic frame of mind as he came into the legal venue on Wednesday, speaking with his lawyers and making jokes. He was accompanied by his partner, his wife and daughter his daughter, a government attorney who the former government terminated.

Upon hearing to the judge state his legal protections and the pair of allegations against him in legal proceedings on Wednesday, James Comey was asked if he comprehended the allegations.

"Absolutely your honour. Appreciate it," he stated to the proceedings.

Historical Information

Mr Comey was the head of the FBI from 2013-2017 and was dismissed about four months into Trump's first administration as president. At the period, he was leading an probe into Russian election interference and whether there were any relationships between Moscow and Trump's campaign.

Throughout his leadership, James Comey triggered a counter-response from liberal politicians when he announced just shortly prior to the 2016 presidential election that he was investigating political contender Hillary Clinton's use of a non-governmental email account. Indictments against Clinton were not pursued, leading to disapproval from the Republican party as well.

In a video James Comey posted to his Instagram after he was indicted, he declared he was innocent and alleged Trump of behaving like a "dictator".

"Our household have known for years that there are consequences to challenging the former president," he said. "We refuse to live on our knees."

"I am not guilty," he stated further. "Therefore proceed with a legal proceeding."

These allegations against Mr Comey came after Donald Trump shared on digital channels insisting on his attorney general, Ms Bondi, take legal action against Mr Comey and other people.
